Since the 2004 tsunami we have been fostering a child through Plan International (Australia). With Sri Lankan heritage in our family we sponsor a child in Sri Lanka assisting his family, village, and community. We can't publish his details, but later after visiting and seeing first hand the devastation brought to this third world country, the rebuilding they'd so far achieved through worldwide help, and the assistance they were still in desperate need of, it was something we were glad to have started long ago. Our foster child has sent us several letters over the years describing how we have helped his community, and brings us happiness to think we have helped if only a small amount.
Plan International helps many communities world-wide and in our family we also adopt an african child. It is only a personal opinion, and after reviewing several of the charities we chose this one as apparently the most directly benificial from our research.
